REMEMBERING ALEXANDER McQUEEN

It is a sad day for the fashion world. The Daily Mail is reporting that Alexander McQueen committed suicide.  McQueen was widely considered to be a genius in the industry and his recent Spring 2010 Shoe Collection is a prime example of how innovative and creative he was.

History: McQueen dropped out of school at 16 to learn tailoring on Savile Row. It is there where he developed his mastery of the technical construction of clothing.  In 1994, he completed a Master’s in Fashion Design at St. Martin’s. His degree collection was famously bought by Isabella Blow. In less than ten years, Alexander McQueen became one of the most respected fashion designers in the world. From 1996 -2001 he worked as the Chief Designer of Givenchy and dies as the Creative Director of his namesake design house, Alexander McQueen.  “Alexander McQueen is known for both the emotional power and raw energy of his shows as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of his collections.” McQueen’s empowering and contemporary designs have been worn by  Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and many more. He will be missed.
